Elizabeth Smith, Bereavement Counselor

A Santa Barbara native, Elizabeth joined Hospice of Santa Barbara in 2022. She is deeply honored to work with community members in the tender work of grief and healing. Elizabeth holds an M. A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, where she trained in integrated somatic psychology. Prior to her work in this field, she earned a B.A. in History of Art from U.C. Berkeley, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Bennington College. In addition to working with adult and adolescent clients, Elizabeth leads bereavement support groups that combine writing and movement. Her approach draws on the innate wisdom of the body, as well as on psychodynamic, existential, and person-centered therapeutic traditions.
